Contenders
for the Faith
(Purpose: To
become a competent, skilled young man that will one day be a Godly
husband, father,
and worker; always willing and able to take a stand for Jesus and
defend his faith..)
Who:
Boys, ages 4-16 and their fathers.
Boys
without fathers are welcome. Mature men in the church are
invited
to assist for skill development and for boys without fathers. New boys
are always welcome! Suggested age is 6-16 yrs, but parents make the
decision on the age their boy should be a part of this program. We have
some boys that are 4 years old. This is fine; it is up to the parents
to decide.
What:
Contenders
for the Faith is a club for boys and will teach skills with the goal to
become a competent, skilled, well-rounded, and capable young man that
will one day be a Godly father and husband and be willing and able to
take a stand for Jesus and defend his faith.
The club is under
the direction of Grace Bible Baptist Church, providing autonomous
control (no outside influence), and uses our own Bible-based teachings.
Designed to promote biblical values while teaching practical skills to
produce capable, balanced Christian adults.
Encourages
biblical family values while developing a diversity of skills and
encourages church and family to join together in learning.
The
club encourages family participation as sons learn together, with their
Dads or other Godly men, enjoying each other at the same time.
The
club is non-competitive. This club rewards character, perseverance and
achievement. Achievement pins are available but optional.
The club encourages elements of the program to be completed throughout
the month and not just at the monthly meeting.
A typical meeting would include a group activity aimed to meet an
achievement, a time of teaching, and sometimes refreshments.
Where:
The
program meetings will be held in individual participants homes on a
rotated basis, at the Indiana Fundamental Bible College (Old New Paris
Elementary School in New Paris), at the church, or other relevant
locations depending on the topic for the month.
When:
The second
Saturday of each month from 9:00am to Noon. However,
times
and locations are flexible depending on the topic for the
month.
Cost:
No
registration fee. The
Contenders of the Faith handbook (highly suggested) can be purchased
for about $15.00 and can be used for the entire life of the program for
each child. It takes approximately 8 years to complete the
program. There is no obligation to complete any or
all parts
of the program. Each achievement pin is approximately $2.50
each,
if you choose to purchase these. A nominal charge may be
asked of
participants to defray the cost of any activity associated with a
monthly meeting. For example, if a craft is planned,
participants
may share the cost of the materials to avoid a burden on the host
family. We will try to keep this as low as possible.
